10-DIGIT DIALING IN 988 AREA CODE
On April 24, 2021, a transition to 10-digit dialing in the 988 area code began. On October 24, 2021 this became mandatory.
10-DIGIT DIALING: 988 AREA CODE UPDATES
Dear Breezeline Customer:
The FCC has designated 988 as an abbreviated dialing code for the National Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Crisis Hotline. In area codes where 988 is a working prefix, local calls will need to be dialed using a 10- digit phone number (1 + area code + phone number), even when dialing in the same area code.
10-digit dialing became mandatory on October 24, 2021. Customers must now dial 10-digits (area code + telephone number) for all local calls. Local calls dialed with only 7 digits may not be completed, and a recording will inform you that your call cannot be completed as dialed. You'll be required to hang up and dial again using the area code and the 7-digit number.
Beginning July 16, 2022, dialing “988” will route calls to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. For more information, click here.
